Once a month, in an ordinary room, with everybody invited.
A candidate meet-and-greet is not a debate. There’s no timer, no podium, no moderator trying to make news. It’s a room where the people asking to represent you are standing there, and you can walk up and ask them something.
We hold them monthly — in a library meeting room, a grange hall, a community center, or a brewery’s side room. Cost to us is near zero. Cost to you is nothing.
Every ballot-qualified candidate for the covered races gets the same invitation with the same information at the same time. We keep the invitations and the RSVPs on file.
If others decline, we hold it anyway with whoever comes. The invitation file proves the room was open. We will not cancel a room because only one person walked into it.
Same speaking time if there is any. Same table size, same position, same signage. Introductions are name and office only — no biography, no framing, no warmth for one and formality for another.
Candidates may bring their own materials to their own table. We don’t hand anything out on their behalf.
No pledge, no questionnaire requirement, no agreement to any LCV position. There are no LCV positions.
Nothing to register, nothing to pay, and nobody takes your name unless you want to be on the email list.
“Before you go — filing week in Washington is the first Monday in May through that Friday. For a lot of the seats in this county, the fee is 1% of the salary, and for offices paying under a thousand dollars a year it’s a flat ten dollars. If ten dollars is a problem, you can file a petition instead — one signature per dollar. You have to be a registered voter in the district. That’s the qualification list. If you’ve ever thought about it, come to a workshop. It’s free and we don’t care who you’d run as.”
Most people in the room have never heard any of that. That is how a future candidate starts.
Free and open to the public. Bring a question, or bring nobody and just listen.
Members host meet-and-greets. Every event runs on three to five members with named roles: host, candidate liaison, room lead, greeter, and the person who does the five minutes.
If you’ve been a member for a month, you can have one of those jobs at the next event.
